Man charged with bar robbery

NORMAN — After allegedly stealing money and alcohol from a Cleveland County bar and fleeing while under the influence, a Newalla man faces charges that were filed Tuesday in Cleveland County District Court.

Michael Alan Campbell, 44, was charged with robbery by force or fear, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, aggravated and driving with a canceled, suspended or revoked license.

Cleveland County deputies were dispatched to Dirty Bird Bar and Grill, 15101 S. Peebly Road, on April 12. They were advised that Campbell may have taken money along with alcohol from the bar and fled the scene, possibly under the influence of alcohol, the affidavit filed with charges stated.

Shortly after the incident, Campbell was pulled over during a traffic stop for driving at a high rate of speed and traveling left of center. The game warden who pulled Campbell over also noticed the vehicle matched the description of the robbery suspect’s, the affidavit stated.

When a driver’s license and warrant check was conducted, the game warden was advised that Campbell’s driver’s license was revoked out of Oklahoma. Deputies showed up at the game warden’s location shortly after and made contact with Campbell.

“I immediately observed that Campbell had an odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath and person. Campbell’s speech was slurred and he acted disoriented. Campbell made a self-admission to drinking alcohol and liquor shortly before the traffic stop,” the affidavit stated.

A standardized field sobriety test was then conducted. The deputy then arrested him for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and operating a motor vehicle while driving privileges were revoked.

When Campbell was transported to jail and the state’s test was conducted, Campbell’s results were a 0.17 breath alcohol concentration, records indicate.

During the course of the DUI investigation, another deputy went to the Dirty Bird Bar and Grill and made contact with the reporting party. The reporting party said Campbell forced her to go to the car so she could give him money. She gave him $200 in cash from the safe in the bar, the affidavit stated.
