NORMAN — An Oklahoma City man was charged in Cleveland County District Court last week after police told him to stay away from storm-affected areas in Moore.
Jared Dale Thorton, 21, was charged May 23 with disturbing a disaster area and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Thorton was arrested May 22 on a complaint of looting and possession of drugs.
According to the affidavit filed with charges, Thorton was escorted out of the area near SW 11th Street and Plaza, a disaster zone. Thorton then tried to enter the area around SW 8th Street and Sante Fe Avenue when he was again told to leave the disaster area. He then walked across Sante Fe and was contacted by another officer who patted down and searched Thorton, the affidavit states.
The officer found a pill bottle inside Thorton’s right pocket labeled Ibuprofen and containing morphine, a schedule II drug, the document said.
“(Thorton) advised he found medication in (the) disaster area and picked it up,” the affidavit said.
The case has been automatically assigned to District Judge Tracy Schumacher.
