NORMAN — A Norman teen was charged as a youthful offender with three felony counts of assault and battery Wednesday in Cleveland County District Court after several incidents with family members.

Erik Matthew Hughes, 17, allegedly assaulted family members on two occasions.

According to an affidavit filed, Hughes was attempting to force his way into a sibling’s bedroom Saturday when a parent intervened. The parent was assaulted and Hughes pulled out a folding knife, cutting the parent on the cheek, the affidavit said.

When the assaulted parent fell to the floor, Hughes then began to stomp on the parent’s face, the document states.

During another incident Tuesday, Hughes went into his sibling’s room, demanded to know what drugs the sibling was on and began to punch the sibling in the face. The injuries resulted in a black eye, some bruising and some scratches on the sibling’s leg, the affidavit said.

When Hughes was assaulting the sibling, the same parent attempted to intervene, and Hughes began to assault the parent. Hughes pulled the knife out again. When the parent told him to put it down, Hughes complied but then went after the parent with a hammer, the affidavit said.
