NORMAN — America is losing thousands of World War II veterans every month. It’s fitting that honors are coming to those veterans.
It’s taken a number of years but World War II veterans are getting some recognition. Oklahoma lawmakers recognized two from Norman this past week during Veterans Awareness Day at the Capitol.
Army Col. (Ret) A.D. Hollingsworth was recognized on Monday and Army nurse Mbel Ruth “Mike” Stephanic was honored Wednesday. Both received standing ovations from the legislators.
This week, the Honorary Consul of the Republic of France will present the French Legion of Honor award to Col. (Ret) Woodrow Wiltse in a Norman ceremony.
The efforts of these veterans and others changed the course of history.
