NORMAN — Two of the biggest variables for proponents of the Norman Public School bond election are voter complacency and the weather. They can’t control either.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today for the $126 million, five-year bond plan. It follows a similar 2009 bond issue that included projects in every school property. The final project, the addition to the district’s administration building, is nearly complete.
Norman voters have been responsive to the past bond issues. The new formula puts bond money to work immediately, giving the district’s students the opportunity to benefit from the projects while they are still in school. All of the 2014 projects proposed would be completed within 36 months of construction starting.
We support a “yes” vote today. State law requires a 60 percent majority.
