There’s only one 3-D Danny

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Danny Williams never had a bad day, and he didn’t let his viewers and listeners have one either. He was one of those rare individuals whose voice and personality engaged us through the years.

That voice is now silenced. Williams died this week at age 85, following complications from a heart attack this past fall. He was a pioneer in Oklahoma City television and later worked in radio.

We will remember him as Dan D. Dynamo, the star of WKY TV’s “The Adventures of 3-D Danny.” He later assumed the mysterious persona of Xavier T. Willard on the long-running “Foreman Scotty” show on WKY TV. He was a commentator on live wrestling broadcasts, giving rise to his line, “Watch out for flying chairs.”

He got to be more serious with “Dannysday,” a daytime talk and variety show that made its debut in 1967. That show ran for 17 years, just long enough for those of us who grew up on “Foreman Scotty” to be interested in current events and entertainment.

We have missed his warm greetings and program signoffs for several years. In 2008, at age 81, he retired from his morning radio broadcast on KOMA.

Services for Mr. Williams will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Oklahoma History Center.
