NORMAN — There are many worthy causes to support with our time and treasure this time of year. Charities, even ones we support all year, launch year-end donor drives.
Norman’s United Way drive is one of our favorites, as it matches donors with a multitude of social and human service agencies operating within our community.
This year’s campaign hopes to raise $2.05 million to keep the lights on and the doors open at those agencies. The member agencies raise their own funds but the United Way’s checks are more certain.
This year’s victory luncheon is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Friday at the NCED. The drive, headed by OG&E’s James Chappel and John Koons, faced the added obstacle of competing with some very worthy tornado relief efforts this year.
It seems like weather-related calamaties impact all fund drives, churches and another charities. But Norman residents have a tendency to look at the bigger picture and contribute accordingly.
Donors can give online at unitedwaynorman.org or by mail at United Way of Norman, 2424 Springer Drive, No. 304, Norman, 73069.
