NORMAN — Norman residents have had a rash of auto burglaries recently. Victims tell us their vehicles are hit early in the morning, usually in their driveways or on the street. Windows are smashed and items grabbed and the thief is off in the night.
Police recommend that cars be parked in a garage if you have one and that all items be removed, so as to not make the vehicle a target if it is parked outside overnight.
Another victim, a senior citizen recuperating from surgery, told us she was the victim of a daytime burglary Friday afternoon at her home near Jackson school. A uniformed man who introduced himself as a tree trimmer for utilities told her he needed to go to the back yard and inspect the trees.
While she was out back with him, his accomplices came in through the unlocked front door and rifled through her home and stole silver items, including a heirloom tray, and other items.
“It’s probably melted into a big ball of silver right now,” she said.
She wants to warn others in case the scam is attempted elsewhere.
