A push for candidates

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Democrats are making a push to inject some blue into the elected ranks in Texas. We’re not seeing such a push in Oklahoma but it may still be early in the election cycle.

The Associated Press reports few Democrats are emerging to take on Gov. Mary Fallin and other high-ranking Republican incumbents. Republicans captured all of the statewide elected offices in 2010.

Wednesday was the deadline to file campaign finance reports ahead of the 2014 elections. Capitol reporter Sean Murphy reports many of the more high-profile Democrats appear to be taking a pass this time around.

“If you’re fishing for a name for a gubernatorial candidate, we’re still fishing, too,” Oklahoma Democratic Party Chairman Wallace Collins of Norman told the AP.

We think Collins and others will find some qualified candidates and there will be some spirited races in many of the statewide offices. Term limited legislators often look to the statewide, secondary seats as their next public office.
