NORMAN — One of the first elections to fall under a new state law on in-person, absentee voting takes place here Tuesday. Norman voters are being asked to approve an increase in utility rates, specifically sewer service rates.
Additionally, voters in Lexington are being asked to approve an increase in the sales tax rate from 3.5 percent to 4 percent.
Voters, who normally couldn’t cast early ballots until Friday, can now vote on Thursday and Friday only. There is no longer Monday voting at the election board.
Saturday voting is restricted to federal elections. We never have understood that, since more voters have the time on Saturdays. It might be an easier day to find poll workers, too.
Early voting hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday at the election board office, 641 E. Robinson St. On Tuesday, polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
