Competing for flights

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — Since Norman’s airport doesn’t have or plan to have scheduled passenger service, local travelers rely on Will Rogers World Airport for air travel. (Some folks swear they can save money and time by driving to DFW, but we’re not convinced).

Now that the airport remodel is nearly complete, Oklahoma City airport trustees want to expand the number of carriers and destinations. To do that, they’re putting bonus incentives out there.

Carriers that will make non-stop routes and go to destinations now unserved could get cash bonuses. Airlines, most often low-fare carriers, often need the incentives to market and promote their flights.

It’s a more competitive market nowadays as airlines seek concessions from airports and cities that are served. Oklahoma City’s central location makes for easier connections to major hub cities.
