NORMAN — The first week in May is celebrated each year as National Travel & Tourism Week. It’s a time for communities to reflect on the economic impact of the industry.

Norman’s Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates 1.5 million people attended one of Norman’s annual events or University of Oklahoma athletic events. Visitors to Norman made a $146 million economic impact on the city.

The NCVB honored the Pioneer Library System’s Big Read as the outstanding event for 2014.

The outstanding attraction was the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, and Sooner Legends was honored for outstanding hospitality.
