No price relief in sight

NORMAN — The end of the summer driving season usually signals that lower gasoline prices are in sight. Not so fast. Political instability in the Middle East could trigger higher prices any day, AAA reports.

Statewide, gasoline prices continue to trend upward.

Wednesday’s statewide average of $3.544 is more than 14 cents above the $3.40 average recorded on Aug. 20. Fourteen states have lower averages than Oklahoma.

Among our neighboring states, Texas has the lowest average at $3.415. Norman was $3.561 this week, up from $3.457 last week and down more than seven cents a gallon from a year earlier.

Nationally, the average price Wednesday was $3.59, fourth highest record for this day and up four cents a gallon from last week.
