NORMAN — There are few values in higher education. Tuition costs alone have increased more than 250 percent in the past three decades.
Oklahoma was recently recognized as one of the top 20 states with the most affordable public colleges.
The organization, AffordableCollegesOnline.org, ranked only public, four-year degree granting, fully accredited institutions.
The average annual in-state tuition and fee cost for Oklahoma was $5,844. Texas was $7,378, Kansas was $7,085 and Arkansas was $6,605.
The rankings are based on data obtained from online sources. The University of Oklahoma recently switched to a flat-rate tuition fee based on 15 hours.
Under the plan, average tuition and fees may rise, but students are encouraged to take additional hours to meet on-time graduation requirements.
