Education drives economy

The Norman Transcript

NORMAN — It’s no secret that education is the engine that drives much of Norman’s economy. That message was affirmed at Thursday’s economic summit sponsored by the Norman Economic Development Coalition.

Speakers at the forum included an OU vice president, an assistant superintendent of Norman Public Schools and the superintendent of the Moore-Norman Technology Center. All presented information on the value they provide for the tax dollars received.

Deidre Myers, of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, told summit participants she took note of the commuters headed to Oklahoma City from Norman each day. Those workers choose to live in Norman, partly because of the top-notch school system and access to higher education, she said.
