NORMAN — Big retailers will celebrate “Black Friday” and even “Black Thursday” this year. Small businesses have their own redemption day.
With no pun intended, the event started small but has grown to a nationwide celebration. National advertising, local campaigns often pushed by the Chamber of Commerce and word of mouth have spread the gospel of small businesses.
With their larger counterparts, small businesses help support communities in many ways. The sales taxes they collect stay at home, keeping fire trucks running and the lights on at city hall. They help our youth and our civic clubs, and their employees are our neighbors.
They can make decisions quickly and adapt to changing needs in the marketplace. We salute them as they open the doors this Saturday and every Saturday.
