NORMAN — State school superintendent Dr. Janet Barresi didn’t mince words when a Norman forum audience member asked her if she thought charter schools were draining money from regular public schools.
“No, I don’t,” she said. “Because I believe money should follow the student, not the school.”
Dr. Barresi helped start two charter schools. They are subject to the same scrutiny, grading and testing as other schools, she said. Indeed, one charter school received an “F” grade in the recent state school grading.
Some are good and some need to be closed, she told the guest.
