NORMAN — There seems to be a lot of confident Sooners headed to Dallas for the annual Red River Rivalry on Saturday morning. Sooner fans seem pretty sure of coming home with a win.
We’ve been down that road before, and we don’t mean the interstate. The Texas Longhorns have pulled surprises on the Sooners as many times as we have surprised them.
Saturday will be the 108th meeting between the two teams. The Sooners are a 14-point favorite, according to some rating services, but with this kind of rivalry, all bets are off.
Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops has nine wins versus Texas. He is tied with Barry Switzer for the most wins against the Longhorns. The last time UT entered the game unranked was 1998.
A win for Texas would break the Sooners’ three-game streak and perhaps help Texas coach Mack Brown retain his job. But as Stoops has said, it’s not Mack and Bob on the field.
