NORMAN — Moore Norman Technology Center’s Business Development Center was recently named the 2013 Oklahoma Incubator of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The SBA noted in its letter to the BDC that it was recognized for its “efforts to support the enduring drive of America’s entrepreneurs and to the power of small businesses to change lives and transform communities.”
“The U.S. Small Business Administration has issued awards to different groups involved in support of small business for many years. This is the first year they’ve issued an award to an incubator,” BDC Coordinator Greg Kieson said. “We’ve been very active using the SBA as a resource for a number of years now, so they recognize that we’re a significant player in the incubator industry.”
Kieson said about 50 business incubators are in Oklahoma and he is very honored to have Moore Norman’s BDC be the first to receive the distinction from the SBA.
“The application was extensive with all of the information about the BDC and reference letters, but I’m very proud of the award. It gives us a bit of ‘bragging rights,’ and I think it is indicative of and certainly supports the quality of what we do here, as recognized by a federal agency,” Kieson said.
The BDC was established in 2005 when MNTC’s South Penn Campus was opened. Both are located at the corner of SW 134th and South Penn Avenue in south Oklahoma City.
