Norman Public Schools intentionally builds in extra instructional minutes to the school day beyond the state minimum so extra minutes can be counted by the state for instructional time in the case of lost time due to inclement weather.
Those extra minutes account for six instructional days, if needed, for the 2013-2014 school year.
Additionally, the district has four designated snow days built into the calendar. To view the calendar, visit norman.k12.ok.us/assets/-files/13-14%20Draft%201%20BOE%20Approved.pdf.
Hickman said the district’s intention to make up the two missed days last week by utilizing accumulated, extra instructional minutes will allow NPS to take additional snow days, if needed.
Norman Public Schools will have with five more snow/inclement weather days, should the district need them, without having to alter the calendar in any way and prevent impacting parents, students and teachers at the end of the year.
