Norman Kiwanis Club honors Students of Month

NORMAN — The Norman Kiwanis Club recognized two Moore Norman Technology Center students as February Students of the Month during their regular meeting this week. The students represent Business & Information Technology and Health areas of study at MNTC.

Westmoore High School senior Stefan Paxton is a second-year student enrolled in MNTC’s entrepreneurship class. He has completed internships with Korey McMahon, of McMahon Marketing in Norman and with MNTC’s Employment Services office. He is an active member of the DECA student organization and serves as class president.

Paxton said prior to attending MNTC he lacked direction and motivation for schoolwork and did not spend time thinking about his future or future career.

“This class has completely changed everything for me. I was quiet and a little bit lazy and this class challenged me in a new way and awakened me. Ms. Pierce has given me the keys to be successful, and she’s accepting and encouraging of my ideas and that is what helps all of us excel,” Paxton said.

Paxton has developed a small business called Paxton Career Coaching and he helps his clients write their resumes and do mock interviews. He also offers webinars and provides assistance filling out job applications. Today, Paxton said he has 100 clients.

After graduation in May, he plans to either attend Oklahoma City Community College or join the U.S. Army. To contact Paxton Career Coaching, call 675-8677.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography student Katie Rountree started her program in March last year and will graduate in May. She holds a bachelors degree in business management from the University of Central Oklahoma and an associate’s degree in Diversified Studies from OCCC.

At graduation, Rountree also will have earned 43 hours of college credit with OCCC toward a DMS associates degree through a cooperative agreement between the schools. She is a member of the Health Occupations Students of America student organization and serves as her class’s chapter president and she has served as a volunteer with the City Rescue Mission tutoring kids in need. She’s performed sonography clinical site work at St. John Medical Center and Hillcrest Medical Center, both in Tulsa, Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha, Integris Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City, the Duncan Imaging Center in Duncan and Midwest Renaissance Center in Midwest City.
