Superintendent congratulates 3 new board certified MNTC teachers

NORMAN — Moore Norman Technology Center Superintendent Jane Bowen praised three teachers Thursday night for their new national board certification at a regular school board meeting.

Bowen said obtaining national board certification was difficult and could be compared to getting a master’s degree. Amy Smith, Trish Marlow and Scott Breshears obtained their national board certification. MNTC now has seven nationally board certified teachers.

“I’m proud that we have some of the best teachers in the state,” Bowen said.

The school board also recognized MNTC’s new student ambassador program. The program has 20 students, 11 of which are seniors, five of which are juniors and four of which are adults.

Ida Fryhover, MNTC marketing outreach coordinator, said students help with marketing and are working on developing their public speaking skills.

“We have a great group of students that have already started visiting eighth-grade students in Moore on their career days,” Fryhover said.

MNTC student ambassadors will help in upcoming tech fairs. Fryhover said a student from each school in MNTC’s district is a student ambassador.

Charles Lemons, a senior at Moore High School and a MNTC physical therapy student, said he enjoyed his time as an ambassador and at MNTC.

“I like being here more than being at my high school,” Lemons said.

Additionally, the MNTC board passed several agenda items, including the following:

· Superintendent’s personnel recommendations

· A grounds maintenance contract with Dodd’s Complete Lawn Service LLC

· Solicitation of competitive bids for an emergency generator

· Purchase of building management controls for Franklin Road Campus Area D

· Catering service agreements for the South Penn campus with Stuffed Olive, Panera Bread, Swadley’s Smokehouse and Ted’s Cafe Escondido.
