University Board of Regents to meet

NORMAN — Expansion of the Phase I Clinical Trials area of the Peggy and Charles Stephenson Cancer Center at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and construction of storm-hardened shelters on the OU Norman campus are among topics to be discussed by the OU Board of Regents at its regular meeting Wednesday in Tulsa.

The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. at the OU-Tulsa Schusterman Center, 4502 E. 41st St. in Tulsa. Regents will consider items submitted by Rogers State University, followed by Cameron University and then OU.

During the meeting, the regents will consider design and construction documents related to the renovation of approximately 5,200 square feet of space on the third floor of the Stephenson Cancer Center to create additional space for the Phase I Clinical Trials.

The space is at capacity, and additional space is needed to allow continued growth in the number of trials supported by the center.

Additionally, regents will rank architectural firms under consideration to provide professional services for construction of storm-hardened shelters in the housing area of the Norman campus. The firm selected for this project will assist the university in programming and further defining the scope of work.

They also will estimate construction costs and assist in the development of a total project budget for construction of multiple storm-hardened shelters.

When the project’s scope and cost estimate have been sufficiently developed, the board will be requested to approve the project, its budget and the addition of the project to the Campus Master Plan of Capital Improvement Projects for the Norman campus.

The next meeting of the OU Board of Regents is scheduled for Oct. 23 and 24 in Lawton.
