Norman North principal ready to vacate post to open law practice

NORMAN — Norman North High School principal Bryan Young announced his intent to resign on Saturday. In an email to students and parents, Young said he was leaving Norman High to pursue a legal career. Throughout his career within Norman Public Schools, Young worked as Norman North’s cross country coach, boys soccer coach and wrestling assistant coach. He also served as Professional Educators of Norman (PEN) president.

Young said making the decision to step away from the education system was difficult but that he is excited to face a new challenge.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of something new. Mr. Pendarvis was a big factor into my going to law school. I’ve had a tremendous amount of support in the community and that was also a factor in my decision,” Young said. “I love working with kids, so it will be a big change to get up

everyday and not be around 2,400 students. I can never repay the students and staff for the tremendous experience I’ve had at North. I will definitely miss it.”

Buddy Pendarvis was working as NPS attorney until he passed away in March.

Norman Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Joe Siano said that Young had been a longtime dedicated employee and that the district would miss his leadership.

“He was a successful coach, teacher and an effective administrator. I know he’ll be just as successful in the future,” Siano said. “We’re going to miss him, but we wish him the best.”

Young said he believes his experiences dealing with people as a principal will translate well into the law field.

“One of my strengths is that I deal with people daily and foster relationships. I provide opportunities to solve problems, which correlates with the law,” Young said.
