NORMAN — Norman High School’s World Language Department will host its annual Celebration of the Arts today from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Norman High School Commons.
The exhibition will feature the original art works of language students, which were created at the culmination of the World Language Department’s Art Week.
During the week, each language teacher presented particular artists and styles of art to connect students with each language’s culture. From 6 to 6:30 p.m., art created during Art Week will be exhibited for the public to view while enjoying refreshments served by students. Local artists will serve as judges, and ribbons will be awarded.
The second part of the Celebration of the Arts will be based on a project that students created the first half of the spring semester in which they wrote, produced, edited and performed original skits in the language they are studying.
This part will take place in the form of an “Academy Awards” presentation and showing of the award-winning videos. Winners will be announced and will walk down a “red carpet” to accept theirstatuettes.
World Language teachers at Norman High include Alice Nan, Chinese; Melinda Minshall, French; Melissa Caddell, German; Erin Davis, Latin; and Darcy Pippins, Kelly Stone, Rhonda Munsell and Kirstin Wyman, Spanish.
