‘School Connect’ co-founder named assistant superintendent

NORMAN — The Cleveland County Board of Education named their new assistant superintendent of administrative services and chief of technology during their regular meeting Monday night.

Dr. Nick Migliorino, a co-founder of School Connect, will take over Dr. Roger Brown’s administrative services position, with the added duty of technology chief, at a salary of $98,389, said Shelly Hickman, Norman Public Schools public information officer.

School Connect is a company providing a web-based platform for schools to create their own mobile applications, along with other Norman residents Steve McDaniel, Tarek Dina and Shelly Hickman, and a Tulsa partner. Migliorino left NPS in 2012 to be School Connect’s chief executive officer when the company was sold to Jostens Inc.

Migliorino was previously with the school district as NPS director of secondary schools from 2008 to 2012. He was also a math teacher and coach at Irving Middle School from 1994 to 1997.

Migliorino’s 20-year career also includes administrative positions with Moore, Tahlequah and Putnam City Public Schools. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education from East Central University in Ada, his Master of Education from the University of Central Oklahoma and his doctorate from the University of Oklahoma.

He returns to NPS as of July 1. Brown, who is retiring as of June 30, plans on moving to Texas after retirement, Hickman said. The district will soon have another retirement in their information and technology area, so the chief of technology position was moved under Administrative Services, she said.

Bond issue projects for 2014: Additional agenda items Monday included discussion and approval of the construction document phase for two projects. Action was needed from the board to proceed with the bid phase for the 2014 bond issue projects, Superintendent Dr. Joe Siano said.

The two projects include a parking lot at the Norman High School soccer and softball complex, or Irving Middle School, and a parking lot expansion at the Administrative Services Center, 131 S. Flood Ave.
