Eighth Grade Orchestra Festival planned Thursday

NORMAN — Students from Alcott, Irving, Longfellow and Whittier will perform a variety of classical music Thursday at the Eighth Grade Orchestra Festival.

The performance will begin at 7 p.m. at the Nancy O’Brian Center for the Performing Arts, 1809 Stubbeman Ave.

A little more than 100 student musicians will rehearse together for the first time Thursday morning before the evening performance.

Scott Jackson, a middle school teacher from Stillwater, was selected by NPS middle school orchestra directors to serve as the event’s guest conductor.

Brenda Wagner, coordinator of orchestras for NPS, said students had been practicing very hard at their individual schools, and the event shouldn’t be missed.

“I really think it’ll be great,” Wagner said.
