A variety of Celtic and folk music will be offered 7-10 p.m. May 10 at a Coffeehouse Evening hosted by the Norman Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, at 1309 W. Boyd St., to benefit Full Circle Adult Day Care. The lineup includes Boru's Ghost, John Madison, and Tom Crider. Admission is free. Donations requested for a variety of refreshments. Child care is available for $3 per child Many Norman residents are caring for an elder, while working full time and raising children. Elders are often the primary caregiver for their spouse, while dealing with their own aging issues. Both situations can be very stressful for caretaker and loved one. Full Circle Adult Day Care provides a safe, fun environment for elders with a range of stimulating social and recreational activities, including art, music and movement therapy. Health and mental health monitoring and meals and snacks are also provided. Full Circle also provides caregivers a support group, referrals and coordination for services, and respite activities to reduce stress and provide a needed break. Although space is limited, no one is turned away for inability to pay. "We're excited to have such great musicians donating their talent for the cause. Full Circle provides a vital service to Norman families and our elders," said event chair Ed Kearns. Boru's Ghost is grounded in the ancient roots of Celtic music, but their style is far from strictly traditional. They combine a range of instrumentals with guitar, bouzouki, hammer dulcimer, and tin whistle with the driving rhythms of the bodhran-Irish drum and complex vocal arrangements from male and female singers. Their influences are as diverse as Pink Floyd and Fleetwood Mac. John Madison performs a variety of traditional and original folk with an Irish influence and delivers it in a powerful style all his own. Tom Crider does highly introspective original folk blended with intricate guitar work. For information, call 226-9712.
