NORMAN — For every person in front of the camera on a film set, there are many more behind the camera. One of the most important positions in film production is first assistant director. The title may be vague and unassuming, but the position helps move the set along at a brisk pace and, as a producer hopes, on budget.
Nathan Gardocki, an experienced assistant director, will share his insights at 7 p.m. on Feb. 23 on how to organize and run a set as part of the Cinematic Artists of Norman “An Evening With” series. The presentation is open to the public and will be held at MAINSITE Gallery, 122 E. Main, Norman.
Gardocki has ample experience in many behind-the-scenes roles on a film set, including the films “Cowgirls ‘n’ Angels,” “Pearl,” “The Killer Inside Me,” and “Yellow.” He has served as second assistant director on the films “Bringing Up Bobby” and “Heaven’s Rain” and first assistant director on many local projects.
Cinematic Artists of Oklahoma was founded by a group of local filmmakers who strive to strengthen the local community of filmmakers by providing valuable resources and outlets. No matter the age or experience level, CAN seeks to build a support system for the creativity of film and video, and seeks to grow the film industry’s interest in Norman.
