Aaah, that magical time of year. The time when April showers bring May flowers. Raindrops gently fall on thirsty lawns. The time of rebirth, green leaves masking the barren trees, red breasted robins and three garage sales on every city block.
One man's trash is not only another man's treasure, garage sales are a good way to get rid of clutter without creating more waste for land fills.
The Norman Transcript-sponsored 5th Annual City Wide Garage Sale is May 30 and 31. City of Norman permits will be required and can be purchased through the city for $10 or can be purchased through The Transcript, 215 E. Comanche St.
For $38, all garage sales will be printed on a map and published in The Transcript May 29 and 31. The map also will be shown on www.normantranscript. com. A classified ad of all sales will run May 30 and 31. Also The Transcript will furnish two 14 by 11 inch waterproof yard signs, a garage sale permit and 140 pre-priced labels.
Here are a some tips to help make the successful garage sale:
Clean and repair all items.
Wash or dry clean all clothing before the sale. Clothing is easier to look through when it is on hangers and tends to sell better.
Check wood furniture for scratches. Use a wax crayon or paste shoe polish that matches the color of the wood.
Wash all plastic toys with hot soapy water.
Wash stuffed animals by placing them in a pillowcase and then placing in washer.
Remove tarnish build-up from silver.
Use a leather cleaner and conditioner on wallets, purses, belts or other leather goods.
Deadline to submit ads is 5 p.m. May 27. For more information or to place an ad, call 366-3500.
