Sara Moore, a 2005 graduate of Norman High School, and in her third year at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, will be one of nine Sir Alexander Fleming Scholars by the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. She will spend June and July working in laboratories with senior-level OMRF scientists on ongoing research projects. She is the daughter of Sharron and Joey DaVault, Norman and Curtis Moore, Mustang.



Rebecca Riner, a resident of Norman, won $10,000 playing Powerball. The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K, a convenience store located at 1200 W. Lindsay St.

Riner has played the lottery weekly for about a year. She plans to pay bills with the money.



Dustin Crowley of Blanchard, Heath Cox and Britt Rolin of Purcell, Jessica May and Kynsey Bates of Washington, Tanisha Hamm, Brian Helvey and Justin Washburn of Lexington, Sheridan Baldridge, Kathleen Makowicz, Kristina Makowicz and Renee Munsey of Moore, Britney Nicole Greenroyd of Noble and Jamie Hardin and Michelle Willis of Norman have been nominated to receive the State FFA Degree, the highest degree of active membership awarded by the Oklahoma FFA Association.

The honor is bestowed upon high school senior FFA members who have demonstrated outstanding supervised agricultural experience programs and leadership activities. Only 687 of the more than 24,000 Oklahoma FFA members have advanced through the Discovery, Greenhand and Chapter Degrees to earn the state honor.

Recipients received their degrees during the 82nd State FFA Convention held at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, April 29-30.

Matthew Overall, emerging agricultural technology, and Kynsey Bates, sheep production, have been nominated to receive the Honorary State FFA Degree, Oklahoma FFA's highest award to recognize outstanding adult support.

The degree is the highest state honorary award presented by the FFA and recognizes those who greatly contribute to the advancement of agricultural education and provide outstanding service to their local program, school and community.

Brian Helvey of Lexington, and Cortney Dawn Streun of Noble were selected to perform at the 82nd State FFA Convention before an audience of more than 10,000 as members of the prestigious 2008 State FFA Convention Chorus.

One-hundred-six FFA members from 63 different Oklahoma FFA chapters were selected by nationally known chorus director Stan Kingma of Roanoke, Va., to perform throughout the convention.



Savannah Collins of Norman North High School recently placed first in the Norman Rotary Club Four-way speech contest. First runner up was Sarah Moss. Other contestants participating were Andrew Connery and Amanda Belcher, both from Norman High School. The Rotary Club's district speech contest was held April 19 in Ada.



Bryce Valley, son of Bruce and Patricia Valley, Norman, has been awarded a football athletic scholarship at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, for the 2008-2009 academic year.

Valley will be a 2008 Norman High School graduate and is interested in criminal justice and Spanish.



Katherine Marie Leachman of Moore and Emily Michelle Jeffries of Community Christian School have enrolled for the 2008 fall semester at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.



Annie Bragg, 8, of Norman, received second place in the first through fifth grade category of the Oklahoma Historical Society nature photography contest. The subject of the contest was "Field, Forest and Stream" the same as the title of the special exhibit that opened April 4 at the Oklahoma History Center, 2401 N. Laird Avenue, Oklahoma City.



Rose State College student Brenda Johnson is one of two college students from Oklahoma to receive a $1,000 Oklahoma Association of Community Colleges (OACC) Scholarship. Johnson, a nursing major from Lexington, received her award at the OACC annual conference held in March.

Johnson is president of the RSC Non-Traditional Student Organization. She entered RSC after spending 25 years raising her three children. Now that her children are older she says she plans to take full advantage of the scholarship to get her nursing degree.



Laurel Murphy of Norman was named to the Dean's List at Johns Hopkins Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences for the fall 2007 semester. Murphy graduated from Norman High School in 2004.



Margaret Vincent, a senior at Norman High School has been named a Henry Wells Scholar at Wells College, Aurora, New York.



Norman High School junior Julie Ann Irvine Halterman served as a page for Sen. John Sparks, March 31-April 3. Halterman is the daughter of Norman residents Jill Irvine and Ronald Halterman.

Kim Thanatkha, a senior at Norman North High School North, recently served as a page for State Rep. Bill Nations at the State Capitol. Thanatkha, from Thailand, is a participant in the Rotary Youth Exchange program.

Community Christian High School freshman London Smith served as a page for the Senate Feb 11-14. Smith is the son of Oklahoma City residents Lance and Lisa Smith.

Norman North High School junior Connor Warren recently served as a page for the Senate. Warren is the son of Norman residents Jim and Judy Warren.



Washington High School juniors Seth Pritchett and Zachary Paulk served as pages for State Sen. Jonathon Nichols during the eighth week of the legislative session, March 24-27.?Pritchett is the son of Dennis and Phyllis Goldsby and Paulk is the son of Larry and Angel Paulk.?All are residents of Goldsby.
