The Oklahoma Humanities Council has nominated Jennifer Kidney, Norman, for state poet laureate, an honorary position appointed by the governor for a two-year term.
Kidney is director of Literature Programs for the Oklahoma Humanities Council and has served as the director of the Let's Talk About It, Oklahoma! reading and discussion program for 20 years.
She earned a Ph.D. in English from Yale University and has held teaching positions at Oklahoma State University, Southern Methodist University and Oklahoma Baptist University and as a Poet-in-the-Schools.
Her poetry collections include "Field Encounters," "Endangered Species," "Animal Magnetism," and "Women Who Sleep with Dogs." Her new book is titled "Life List."
