Oklahoma author Jim Marion Etter will discuss "People and Their Memories" 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Norman Public Library, 225 N. Webster Ave.

Etter, a retired feature writer for The Oklahoman, is the author of several books that include offbeat stories about Oklahoma's out-of-the-way places.

His titles include "WHAT A DIRTY SHAME!" "100 Unforgettable Place Names of Oklahoma," "Ghost-Town Tales of Oklahoma," and "Between Me -- You -- The Gatepost." All of Etter's works are included in the collections of the hometown public libraries of the Pioneer Library System and are available for check-out.

Etter, a native of Oktaha in Muskogee County, lives in Bethany. He also has lived in Texas and New Mexico, and has been a journalist and translator in Latin America. He is among the authors in several anthologies including "New Trails ? 23 Original Stories of the West," and has written for magazines such as Persimmon Hill, American Cowboy, Western Horseman, True West, Desert Exposure, Route 66, Oklahoma Today and ByLine.

After the presentation, Etter will have copies of his books available for purchase and autographing. The event is offered free to the public through the support of the Friends of the Norman Library.
