NORMAN — Jada Atkinson, of Norman, recently participated in the 200-meter event in the Hershey’s Track and Field Games North American Final.
Sponsored by the Hershey Company for 36 years, the North American Final was hosted Aug. 3 in Hershey, Pa., at the Henry Hershey Field on the campus of the Milton Hershey School.
Atkinson is a fifth-grader at Truman Elementary. She also ran on the relay team at the state meet that won first place with Jada Ryan, Blythe Graves and Indigo Koch.
She plays competitive soccer for NYSA on Fury 03 Abel and also plays basketball.
Both her mom, Jennifer, and dad, Shanon, were All-American sprinters at the University of Oklahoma.
Shanon Atkinson is head coach for cross country and track at Southmoore High School.
He was formerly sprint coach at OU. At the North American Final meet, Jada finished sixth with a time of 31.99.
Her time at the Oklahoma State Final of 30.88 was the fastest 9-10 year-old 200 meter in the southwest region (Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, New Mexico and Puerto Rico).
She was one of only four girls and two boys from Oklahoma to qualify for the North American Final meet.
