Norman Galaxy of Writers score at Oklahoma contest

NORMAN — Six Norman Galaxy of Writers members took home 14 awards May 3 and 4 at the annual Oklahoma Writers’ Federation Inc. conference at the Norman Embassy Suites Hotel.

In addition, Robert Ferrier served as judge for a poetry category and Linda Basinger sponsored a full category.

Winners and their categories were Linda Basinger, first place, Contemporary Romance for “Tall, Green and Gorgeous;” Susan Cogan, honorable mention for Horror Short Story, “The Price of Blood,” and third in Historical Novel for “The Tangled Garden;” Neal Huffaker, third honorable mention for Unrhymed Short Poetry, “Elegy for an Apple Tree,” second honorable mention for Long Rhymed Poetry, “The Procrastinator,” first honorable mention for Essay, “Poll Axed;” Kathleen Norris Park, third place for Mystery/Suspense Novel, “River Story,” second place for Column, “Watch Your Language;” Frances Searcey, third honorable mention for Poetry Long Rhymed, “Reality Renting,” third honorable mention for Short-Short Story, “Emerging Release;” and Katherine West, first place for SF/Fantasy/Horror Story, “The Dog Who Swallowed the Fish,” first place for Short Story, “A Good Hand,” third place for Juvenile Short Story, “In Old Sweden One Summer,” third place for Prose Humor, “The Family of Potticus.”
