NORMAN — Individuals interested in learning to assist couples in resolving disputes related to divorce and other family matters can participate in a four-day course in Norman from Wednesday through Saturday.
The course meets the training requirements for professional mediators to qualify under the District Court Mediation Act and is approved by the Oklahoma Bar Association for mandatory continuing legal education.
Judges throughout Oklahoma are referring divorce matters to mediation in the hope that parties might resolve matters on a voluntary basis and avoid an expensive legal battle. Individuals who complete the course will receive a certificate and be qualified to assist in resolving a variety of family and divorce matters.
The course is sponsored by The Mediation Institute, a private, nonprofit organization based in Oklahoma. The course bill be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. all four days. Preregistration is required.
