Agencies to offer free training

NORMAN — United Way of Norman Partner Agencies, Center for Children and Families Inc. and Norman Addiction Information and Counseling will offer a free training, “Understanding Historical Trauma to Better Serve American Indian Families,” from 1:30 to 3 p.m. March 7 at the Sarkeys Foundation, 510 E. Main. St.

The presenter, Randi Sunray, director of the Chokka’ Kilimpi’ Family Resource Center for the Chickasaw Nation, will explore the concept of historical trauma and its impact on the wellness of American Indian families. Sunray will discuss the resiliency of tribal communities and ways to better serve families.

A total of 1.5 continuing education units are approved for licensed clinical social workers and are pending for licensed alcohol and drug counselors, licensed professional counselors, licensed marriage and family therapists and certified alcohol and drug counselors.
