Keeping up the Christmas spirit

NORMAN — Every year people who have grown up think about giving up their habits they have developed over their lifetime.

Some of them forget that young people who look up to them think they are the greatest. So all of us grownups have to keep our decorations, Christmas songs, ect. up and going.

I have spent lots of time, ink and computer typing to type up the words to a whole lot of songs so the people at the Brookhaven Mansions will have the words to sing to. They now have everything from “Winter Wonderland” to “All I want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth.”

Most of the people here are honest and very nice. We know there really was a first Santa Claus who came from a wealthy family and who served in the Catholic Church. He was required to give his entire service to the church so he could not marry and have children. So he started getting toys and other presents and giving them to poor children. From this came Santa Claus stories and songs. Costumes and other things all came later.

We also know Christmas is for and about children and that the Christ child, Jesus Christ, was the first of these children. We can’t give him presents directly, so we give them to each other.
