NORMAN — Just when you thought you were making progress on those New Year’s resolutions, it’s now time for Girl Scout cookie sales.

The cookies made their way to Norman via a semi truck Tuesday. From there, volunteers sorted more than 4,200 cases of cookies. That’s more than 50,400 boxes of Thin Mints, Samoas, Trefoils, Tagalongs, Do-Si-Dos and Savanna Smiles.

“We have a local longtime volunteer, Carol Baylor, who is our cookie boss. She organizes the cookie delivery, drop-off and initial troop orders,” said Misti Pryor, community development executive of Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma. “She minds our cupboard for the season.

“She organized both volunteers and students in the OU chapter of Alpha Phi Omega to help get our troops their orders. She is amazing in her attention to detail, and for that, these thousands of cases of cookies went to the girls without issue.”

The cookie sale began Friday. Cookies are still selling for $3.50 per box. The sale goes through March 23.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program is the leading girl-led small business and financial literacy program for girls, grades kindergarten through 12th grade.

“Our Girl Scout cookies are so much more than a delicious treat. The annual cookie sale provides troops with funds for their year, as well as teaches the five skills essential to leadership and success in life: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business management,” Pryor said. “Many girls use this as an opportunity to run their own business, making business cards and filming commercials to publish on YouTube.

“It really is an opportunity for all of us to help support our girls in achieving their sales goals.”

Each girl, Pryor said, has her own personal sales goal that she is working to achieve.

“If you’re buying cookies, ask your Girl Scout what her goal is, how she’s doing, how she plans on reaching that goal. It’s support from the community that energizes our girls and helps them be successful,” Pryor said.

On Feb. 21, Girl Scout cookie booth sales begin. To locate cookie booths nearby, Girl Scouts Western Oklahoma encourages patrons to download the Cookie Locator mobile application.

The free app locates cookie booths by a mobile device’s GPS location or by ZIP code, city or state. To download the Cookie Locator app, call 472-665-437 or visit
