We had some more good news for the benevolence fund last week when the management steering committee at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma announced that Veterans Corner would receive a $5,000 grant from their committee.
Last week, the benevolence fund helped nine veterans who needed assistance for rent, food, fuel and medical testing.
On any given Thursday, we will spend from $2,000 to $4,000 to meet the needs of the men and women we assist.
The fuel bill from our three vans is part of this weekly expense, along with insurance and repairs that are required. For any questions or assistance from this fund, call Jerry Baxter at 833-0773.
The Goldsby Veterans Memorial is filled with bricks with veterans’ names along the Walk of Honor. If you would like to purchase a brick for the veteran in your life, stop by Thursday to get one in the works.
For those who need food items, Sid Smith has food boxes prepared each Thursday for anyone who needs this assistance.
For all of your questions and assistance about veterans’ benefits, visit me at the Goldsby Community Center each Thursday. Doors open at 7 a.m. Take time to visit veteranscorner.org.
If you would like to be a Veterans Corner sponsor, we are a 501(C) (3), where your donations should be tax deductible.
Donations for the benevolence fund may be sent to Veterans Corner, P.O. Box 704, Washington, OK 73093.
