Norman Altrusa hosts conference

NORMAN — Altrusa members from Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas recently attended the 57th District Eight Altrusa Conference hosted by Altrusa International of Norman.

Attendees participated in workshops and business sessions during “The Sky’s the Limit” conference.

Altrusa International is a world-wide association of civic-minded women and men who volunteer their energies and expertise in projects dedicated to community betterment.

Since their inception in 1917, Altrusa clubs and members, like Eleanor Roosevelt and Dr. Lillian Gilbreth, have been providing hands-on community service.

Providing more than one million collective volunteer hours in their communities, Altrusa clubs serve in more than 360 communities in 11 countries.

Altrusa espouses volunteerism, service and fights for literacy. Altrusa International is based in Chicago.

The 2013 Conference Service Project benefited Norman’s Center for Children and Families Inc.

Donations from Altrusans attending the conference included gifts of $1,000 and 1,045 diapers.

Norman’s Altrusa club, established in 1955, is active in literacy projects and meets twice a month.
