NORMAN — Editor’s note: The following story was submitted to the Transcript’s annual Christmas story contest.
My Christmas memory was when I was 8 years old and my mom was sick with cancer.
I wasn’t really excited for gifts as much as I was worried how long we had with her. When I woke up that morning, it was barely snowing and my mom and dad were sitting in the living room. My dad had a little voice recorder in his hand. He told me we were going to record my mom singing baby lullabies.
After she was done, my sisters and I were given a locket with her and our pictures in it. Sometimes it doesn’t matter what toys you get. Sometimes it’s just nice to be with the ones you love. I will never forget her.
