Panera Bread partnering with Regional Food Bank

NORMAN — Panera Bread will partner on Friday with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

Through Panera Bread’s monthly fundraiser, 2nd Friday, Panera will make a donation to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma’s Food for Kids Backpack Program. Since 2012, Panera Bread has raised more than $30,200 through promotions, which sponsored 151 children in the Food for Kids Backpack program.

By enjoying the following items, guests can increase the number of children helped:

· White chocolate macadamia nut cookie — 50 cents

· Frozen lemonade — $1

· Strawberry poppyseed salad — $2 for whole / $1 for half

One in four children struggles with hunger every day in Oklahoma. The Food for Kids program provides food to chronically hungry children in 53 central and western Oklahoma counties.

The Food for Kids Backpack Program provides chronically hungry children, identified by school personnel, with backpacks filled with non-perishable, kid-friendly food to eat on weekends and school holidays.

During Fiscal Year 2012-2013, the Backpack Program served more than 15,000 chronically hungry elementary school students attending 477 schools in the Regional Food Bank’s 53-county service area. The Backpack Program added nearly 2,000 children into the program this year.
