NORMAN — Citizens Caring for Children will host a one-day back-to-school shopping event from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. July 20 for school-aged children in foster care living in Oklahoma, Canadian, Cleveland, Grady, Lincoln, Logan and Pottawatomie counties. The event will be at the Oklahoma State Fair in the Carriage Hall.

Each child will receive a backpack and school supplies from the Junior League of Oklahoma City and a new outfit from CCC. This year, CCC has expanded its event to offer even more services. Shoppers can receive free dental and vision exams, haircuts, immunizations and be treated to snow cones, pizza from Little Caesar’s and guest appearances by the Oklahoma City Thunder Girls and Oklahoma City Barons Ice Girls. Vendors from Sunbeam Family Services and Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth will pass out literature.

With an anticipated 800 school-aged children in foster care expected to attend, CCC is seeking 300 volunteers to help with setup, check-in, serve as personal shoppers and more. Volunteer shifts are available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. July 17 and 18 and from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 20. Those interested in signing up for a shift should visit cccokc.org or email Hillary Winn, program director, at hwinn@cccokc.org.
