NORMAN — Norman’s three Rotary clubs, Cross Timbers, Norman and Sooner, are soliciting grant applications from Norman nonprofit agencies to fund capital projects from the proceeds of a joint fundraiser.

Le Tour de Vin, a wine tasting weekend presented by the three clubs, funds community projects that reflect the Rotary goals of literacy, humanitarianism, education, youth and health.

The instructions and grant application forms are posted on the Le Tour de Vin website at letourdevin.com/grantapp.pdf.

Applications are due June 15, and the Le Tour de Vin grant recipient will be notified in August.

In 2007, Norman’s Rotary clubs united for Le Tour de Vin, a wine tasting and auction event started by the Cross Timbers club seven years prior. That event raised funds for Thunderbird Clubhouse.

The beneficiary of the 2013 Le Tour de Vin is Food and Shelter, which received a multi-year grant in 2012 to help fund the construction of additional emergency housing.

This year’s two-day event begins June 7 at the home of Bridgit Finley and Dana Martin and features wine, nouveau cuisine appetizers and conversation with winemakers.

June 8, marks the grand festival of the weekend, with samplings from more than a dozen restaurants, tastings from 200 different wines and a lifestyle and rare wine auction in the Showplace Theater at Riverwind Casino.

“Our Rotary motto is ‘Service Above Self.’ In that vein, all three clubs do several fundraisers, but this is the one that brings us together to work as a team,” said Keith Busking, former Sooner Rotary president. “We are eager to choose another beneficiary that has a positive impact on our community.”

Rotary, the world’s first service club, is a 108 year old organization.
