NORMAN — The third annual Mariee Mena Memorial Walk will be Saturday.

Those interested in participating in the walk will gather at 8 a.m. at Marieeā€™s Playground, Marita Hynes Field at the University of Oklahoma Softball Complex, 2500 S. Jenkins Ave.

The walk will start at 8:30 a.m. and end at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1818 E. Alameda St.

On Oct. 4, 2009, Mena was riding on the back of a motorcycle with Brandon Ribelin. They crashed into a car that turned left in front of them and were thrown from the bike at the intersection of Crestland Drive and Alameda Avenue.

While Ribelin survived, the injuries to Mena were so extensive that part of her skull had to be removed in order to relieve swelling. She was soon declared brain dead. Two days later, Mena was taken off life support and died.
