NORMAN — In her new fantasy novel “The Zan of Zatheran,” Norman resident and author Casandra Munoz showcases the war between two species for survival and vengeance.

The story begins as Sonora, once a powerful Thunderbird from the heavens, transformed her body into a semi-human form and left her home forever for the human she loved. She still retained her pure, white wings — the symbol of her purity and royalty — that extended from her back.

From Sonora, the Zathereans — a race of semi-human beings who secretly live along with humans on Earth — flowed and grew, but only her direct heirs were gifted with the white wings of the Zan. As their hidden co-existence with humans is almost no longer possible, the Zathereans decide to move to a different planet they can call their own.

However, another race called the Pathonians also aim to take over the newfound planet of the Zathereans. Under the command of Soroson, Sonora’s grandson, the Pathonians were defeated.

Sixteen years later, the Pathonians returned in vengeance, taking the lives of nearly every Zatherean except Soroson’s daughter and heir, Aleon. Now it’s up to her, a 14-year-old girl, to protect what’s left of her race from total extinction. Aleon struggles with the realities of bereavement and survival from extinction as she is forced into command at a young age.

Published by Tate Publishing and Enterprises, the book is available through bookstores nationwide, from the publisher at or by visiting or
