Norman resident honored

(Continued)

NORMAN —

Jerry Baxter continues to keep us in the black with the benevolence fund monies that we use to assist those veterans and surviving spouses in the community. We helped one lady prepare for winter by filling her propane tank that is used to heat her home.

If you would like to help us to provide services, call Jerry Baxter at 533-0773. We are a 501(C )(3) nonprofit where your donations are tax deductible. As always, we accept automobiles, handicap equipment and other items that can be given to veterans, surviving spouses or sold to raise funds to support our mission.

John Carter is not letting any grass grow under his feet as he works every day, trying to make our Veterans Corner building happen.

Carter is a retired Navy pilot who joined us several years ago to do his part in helping fellow veterans and their families. John can be reached at 202-1999 for any questions you have on our future plans.

Sid Smith has food boxes prepared each Thursday for anyone who needs this assistance. He has been doing this job since we started the benevolence fund, and we appreciate his knowledge and ability to provide this service to Veterans Corner.

We have three vans that are used to transport veterans to their VA appointments. Clayton Lee, of Dibble, can be reached at 684-8860. Howard Martin, of Norman, drives the wheelchair-accessible van and can be reached at 227-3239. Robert Root, of Norman, can be reached at 919-3008.

For all of your questions and assistance about veterans’ benefits, we are at the Goldsby Community Center each Thursday. The doors open at 7 a.m., and sign-in sheets are available at 5:30 a.m.

You may send donations to Veterans Corner, P.O. Box 704 Washington, OK, 73093. You can call me at 550-8806 or email kdgraham@windstream.net.

Semper Fi.

Dale K. Graham is service officer for VFW Post 4890.
