Update: Evacuation area defined

NORMAN — Update 8:22 p.m.

From Norman Police Department: Mandatory evacuation of wildlife area ordered. Due to a large wildfire, the Norman Fire Department has ordered the mandatory evacuation of the following areas east of Norman. 120th Avenue SE to 168th Avenue SE between State Highway 9 and Maguire Road.

Update 8:10 p.m.

From Slaughterville Mayor Bobby Cleveland:

"We need to get the word out that we have enough ice and ice chests. It's unbelievable, first we had none, now we have more than we need. The community has just been great, and we sure appreciate them. But for now, we don't need anymore ice or ice chests.

From the Red Cross:

Cleveland County

· Norman team providing canteen support to 100 responders at 120th & Maguire

· Evacuation Site opened at Noble City Hall, 304 S Main in Noble. A 16 square mile area has been evacuated in Noble.

Noble Animal Clinic  (Across the street from Noble City Hall) is available to take in pets of those evacuating. This is a free service.

Update 6:32

From the Norman Police Department:

The Norman Fire Department is currently fighting a grass fire south of SH 9 between 120th Avenue and 168th Avenue. SH 9 is being closed between 84th Avenue and 168th Avenue. PLEASE avoid this area.

Update 6:14:

From Slaughterville Mayor Bobby Cleveland:

Cleveland County crews from all three districts have heavy equipment out trying to clear fire breaks. Currently relief personnel are in need of ice and ice chests. Volunteers have brought water, but ice and ice chests are needed at Slaughterville City Hall.

At least two firefighters have been transported for treatment. Cleveland said they likely were taken to Purcell hospital, but emergency room personnel could not confirm that firefighters were being treated, citing privacy issues.

Update 6:06:

Fire command has ordered the mandatory evacuaction of Thunderbird State Park. Evacuation of the Clear Bay area of Lake Tunderbird already had been ordered. Of note in that area are Thunderbird Stables and Clear Bay Cafe.
