Victim identified in homicide

NORMAN — Norman Police have identified the victim in the overnight homicide of 24-year-old Justin Barnard of Norman. Police have arrested four subjects on murder complaints. The subjects, identified as Jason Harris, Rusty Wooten, Isaiah Walker and Michael Tubby, were booked into the Cleveland County Justice Center on charges of first degree murder and burglary.

Norman Police believe that the incident started in Oklahoma City on Wednesday night when a dispute between the victim and his girlfriend erupted. An assault is believed to have occurred in Oklahoma City, according to reports.

On Thursday night, the ongoing dispute escalated to the shooting and subsequent death of the Barnard.  Persons associated with the victim’s girlfriend are believed to have come to Norman in retaliation for Wednesday’s assault.

Barnard died late Thursday night after reportedly being shot in the face by masked intruders.

Police responded to a residence on North Stewart at 8:39 p.m. Thursday where they found Barnard shot in the face. A white female in her 60s was uninjured.

The preliminary investigation revealed that three vehicles pulled up next to the residence and several masked men emerged, kicked in the door to the home, then shot the victim in the face with a handgun.

The intruders reportedly took the woman’s wallet and left, heading southbound.

The victim was transported by EMSStat to the Norman Regional Hospital in critical condition. The female was also transported as a precautionary measure.

Barnard died after arrival at the hospital.
